Ovarian cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the ovaries. Women have two ovaries, one on each side of the uterus. Ovaries produce eggs which helps a woman to become pregnant. Ovary cancer is one of the most common cause of death among women with gynecological cancers. The most common reason for such high mortality is a late diagnosis of this disease. The disease has been labeled as Silent killer as the symptoms don't manifest till the disease has spread considerably or because the symptoms masquerade so much that it is often ignored by the patient and dismissed at the primary care physician.
Early diagnosis is of utmost importance in ovary cancer cases but unfortunately effective screening policies have not yet been made. So, the awareness is one important tool that is also needed from a woman’s point of view. Ovarian cancer often goes undetected until it has spread within the pelvis and abdomen.
Let’s look for the following symptoms or warning signals of ovary cancer:
- Progressive abdominal bloating or heaviness
- Loss of appetite or quickly feeling full when eating
- Discomfort in lower abdomen
- Pain during sexual activity
- Change in bladder or bowel habits such as constipation
- Low back pain

1. If the symptoms are new to a lady in the past 1 year
2. The symptoms occur for more than 12 times a month
If you notice such signs in your body you should contact a good specialist doctor and also explain them of suspicion of ovarian cancer. The next logical step in such a case should be a thorough physical examination including a per vaginal examination followed by CA125 level ( it’s a blood test) and a ultrasound of abdomen focusing on the ovaries. Red flag signs on investigations would be an abnormally high CA125 coupled with abnormal mass or fluid in the abdomen.

A point to remember that 9 out of 10 ovarian cancers can be CURED if detected early.
When My grandmother was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer, she was completely broke. Firstly accepting that you have cancer is not easy at all, then gaining enough strength for treatment is also difficult. Thank you Dr. Vikas Goswami for saving my grandmother's life. We had lost our hope, but your treatment procedure gave her new life and hope. She has improved a lot.
ReplyDeleteI am here today to say a big big thanks to Dr. Vikas Goswami from my side. I seriously got a new life…which is free from cancer just because of him. I had uterine cancer. I thought my life was over and more than myself I was worried about my kids. I couldn’t believe in the first place that I had cancer. But the reality was something else. I used to feel pain around the pelvic region. There was also some unusual vaginal bleeding. My periods would last for more than 10 days. I was so worried and scared all the time. I consulted my gynaecologist. I think some symptoms suggested it to be something serious. I was referred to Dr Goswami. Tests confirmed it was cancer. It was obviously a shock for us. But Dr Goswami made us realise that it could be treated. It has been more than 1.5 years and the condition is better now…I mean obviously it has been tough but at least I knew I was in safe hands. I still take a lot of precautions as the cancer can come back…but I must say I feel much better now and have slowly started retuning to a normal life with my kids, husband and family. I am really thankful for the right guidance and treatment.
