Protect your lungs this Diwali

Diwali is the festivals to spread joy, happiness, and share and increase relationship bond. But people spread worst kind of air and noise pollution making this festival a nightmare for many. The fire crackers busted during this month produces the nastiest kind of gases in air and intoxicating the air we breathe.

Fire crackers are the major part of Diwali celebration. Crackers like gola bomb, anar, chakris, phuljharis, even rockets contains heavy metals and pollutants like copper, cadmium, sulphur, aluminium and barium, which not only harming the environment but also giving major health hazards, The toxicity spread by these crackers in the air is not only dangerous for those suffering from pulmonary diseases, but it also causes breathing problems in others. It also causes irritation in the eyes, nose, throat and causing skin allergies; asthma and other respiratory issues and major changes in lung-cell structure causing life taking disease Cancer.

What happens is when crackers are lit, they produce different oxides of heavy metals like sulphur, barium, cadmium etc as mentioned above too; which are harmful for lungs and gets absorbed into the circulation and affect other organs of the body. So, every year we suggest people not to burst crackers for their health sake. Diwali is such a beautiful festival, instead of crackers lit candles, diyas, electrical lights.

Following are the few important measures to be taken during diwali:

1. It is advisable for children and the elderly persons or people with lung or heart disease and are especially sensitive should stay indoors and
close the windows to avoid breathing the smoke.

2. To avoid noise pollution, cover your ears with cotton balls, also close your doors and windows to avoid as much as noise caused by crackers.

3. Do not wear silk or synthetic clothes as they are prone to fire

4. Keep water and emergency kit handy in case of any mishap.

5. It is also advisable to stay away from silver coated sweets as such foils are often adulterated by aluminum and aluminum being a hazardous metal can accumulate in our body tissues and can also enter the brain.

6. To avoid hangover say NO to alcohol

Enjoy Diwali & have an Eco friendly Diwali!

  1. I want to thank Dr VikasGoswami from the bottom of my heart for saving my father’s life…our family will always be very grateful to him for his support and treatment. Actually my father had thyroid cancer. There was a lump on his neck..although not too big but it was still quite noticeable. His voice also changed a bit. He felt pain while swallowing food or even drinking water. Neck pain also troubled him a lot. He visited the doctor and started having some medications for throat infection…because obviously at first he just thought it was just like any other physical problem. But there wasn’t much relief. In fact the symptoms were growing serious. A couple of tests indicated it to be thyroid cancer. We were more than shocked and totally shattered…Obviously we couldn’t believe that because he never smoked or had alcohol. We had no choice but to accept the reality. Dr Vikas started the treatment..it was too difficult for us to see him in pain..but we trusted Dr Vikas. He did not break our hopes. It has been more than 1 year and my dad is doing much better now. He is recovering really well and all the regular tests indicate the same. I wanted to share this because I know many out there must be struggling with the disease…I know how scary the situation can get..i really recommend consulting Dr Vikas because it might save a precious life!!
